WELLESLEY, MA to SCITUATE, MA: Presenting the story of Stern Nugent, a wonderfully restored Classic Stern Pinball from Dr. Dave’s Pinball Restorations.
From it’s classic iconic back glass cover art to the unique story of chain of ownership from the owners who cherished it. We originally sourced and bought this game from a collector in Wellesley, MA back in 2015 and promptly restored it for a client in Scituate who had been looking for a Nugent pinball for many years.
You see, she knew Ted Nugent back in the late 70’s when this game was first designed. Ted was their neighbor, friend and family babysitter. She told of us the time when Ted came shopping with them to a dance supply store. She thought it was funny that he wanted to pick out pair of tights for his upcoming concert tour!
Later that year in 1978, Ted gifted her family one of the many Nugent pinball machines he received from Stern as payment for letting Stern design a pinball machine around this rock and roll icon. Sadly, it was left behind during their move to the Boston area.
Stern Nugent was designed by Mike Kubin (Also known for Stern Seawitch and Gameplan Andromeda). Fior this restoration, we started out with a very sweet example of this hard to find game and made it that much better with 40 hours of restoration work put in. We rebuilt the flippers, and upgraded the pop bumpers to the better more improved style Stern went with years after this title was released utilizing a plastic rod-and-ring instead of the metal one used prior. The result? Much better pop bumper action! The spinner was adjusted for maximum spins and the feed to the flippers adjusted for no flipper hop / smooth transitioning (A unique signature Dr. Dave upgrade that no one else does or sees fit to do.) We upgraded and rebuilt the electronics as well as adding tasteful LEDs where needed.
New silicone rubber all around, cabinet cleaned. New Weebly MPU along with rebuilt driver, power supply and lamp driver boards and connectors serviced.
